Consultation on changing inheritance laws

The Channel Islands hold a unique place in Europe’s geography and history. Closer to France than England, they are a part of the UK but, like Scotland, have a different legal system to England and Wales.

It is interesting to see that whilst England and Wales appears to be moving towards the situation in some other countries, in which certain relatives are entitled to inherit some money regardless of the deceased’s wishes, Guernsey is consulting on moving away from that position – perhaps the two positions will converge in the not-too-distant future.
