The Probate Registry is conducting trials to enable executors who are dealing with probate themselves, without the help of a solicitor, to apply for probate online. Here is a link to an interesting blog from the man responsible in the civil service for the project. I have not seen anything more recent than this.
I was particularly interested in the findings that:-
- Not all users understand what probate is and if they need to apply
- Some personal applicants don’t understand what is meant by ‘swearing of the oath’ which can add to their stress levels
In other words, this is a very stressful time for “do it yourself executors and administrators” and many of them would benefit from appointing probate specialists, not only to ensure the job is done properly but also to help take away the stress.
